Our role in counseling multigenerational families on the transfer of wealth is twofold:
To guide existing clients on the most tax-advantaged ways to pass along wealth in line with their current goals
To educate the younger generations on the potential for sudden windfalls and on how to be prepared ahead of time
Instead of thinking of the generations as separate and distinct, we treat them as a cohesive family unit. In order to stress continuity and consistency in the family’s plan, we ask for introductions to family members early on in the client relationship when we are first made aware of family wealth-transfer issues. This offers the opportunity to forge a stronger relationship during each subsequent meeting.
