Collierville, TN, October 7, 2008 -- The Shelby County School Board of Education has unanimously re-elected David Pickler to serve as Board Chairman. Pickler, 49, of Germantown, begins his tenth term as leader of the school board. In the 141-year history of the Shelby County School system, only two individuals have served longer as Board Chairman than Pickler.

Joining the board as a member of the first elected Shelby County Board of Education in 1998, Pickler was selected by his peers as Chairman in September 1999. Under his leadership, the Shelby County School Board has twice been selected Tennessee School Board of the Year. In 2007, Pickler was selected Tennessee School Board Member of the Year. He has been elected President of the Tennessee School Board Association for 2008 and was recently chosen as Southern Region Director for the National School Board Association. “I believe education to be the most important responsibility of government. The public schools are both the symbol of our democracy as the most pervasive means of promoting our common destiny”, stated Pickler.
