The National School Boards Association has honored Shelby County Board of Education Chairman David Pickler with its Distinguished Service Award for an unprecedented third time. Only ten Board members each year are selected by the NSBA from America's 95,000 school board members.

Collierville, TN, October 7, 2008 -- The Shelby County School Board of Education has unanimously re-elected David Pickler to serve as Board Chairman. Pickler, 49, of Germantown, begins his tenth term as leader of the school board. In the 141-year history of the Shelby County School system, only two individuals have served longer as Board Chairman than Pickler.

David Pickler, Chairman of the Shelby County School Board of Education for the past ten years, has been elected to serve as President of the Tennessee School Boards Association for 2009. Pickler will lead the nearly 1,000 school board members across Tennessee over the next year as the association continues its advocacy for empowering excellence in school boardsmanship and public education.

David Pickler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pickler Wealth Advisors, is a featured author of a newly published book entitled Memphis Profiles in Courage. Pickler was selected to join fourteen other community leaders to write chapters honoring individuals and organizations that have displayed courage in the face of adversity to achieve greatness.

David Pickler, Chairman of the Shelby County School Board of Education, has been appointed as Southern Region Director for the National School Boards Association. Pickler joins the NSBA Board of Directors as the first Tennessean to serve in the national leadership in over twenty years. He will also serve in 2009 as President of the Tennessee School Boards Association.
